MB VIDEO FORMATION TESTER
RAPID COMPUTERIZED TESTING OF PAPER FORMATION

Formation is the key underlying basic property of paper that determines the paper strength, run-ability and pressroom performance. Machine operating conditions and fiber stock characteristics directly influence paper formation and are always changing, requiring continual reel-to-reel monitoring of formation.

The Video Formation Tester, originally developed by MacMillan Bloedel Research, uses digital imaging technology to judge the formation of a sample sheet with the same sensitivity and method as the human eye.

Video image acquisition, and formation analysis, is done by computer with new user friendly Windows based software. Results are rapid and easy to interpret.

This instrument offers superior reproducibility as well as maximum sensitivity and resolution, to variations in sheet formation. The MB Video Formation system compares very favorably to other systems which often cost much more.

  • Quick, reproducible measurement, measures large area

  • Large dynamic range of formation number

  • Measurement not orientation or side dependent

  • Very high correlation with visual assessments

  • Simple to use, easy calibration, no maintenance

  • Outstanding reproducibility and correlations
