IGT Reprotest, represented by Kalamazoo Paper Chemicals, has for many decades been supplying the well-known AIC2-5 printability tester for making numerous tests on different substrates and inks in quality control and research.
  • Tests small quantities of ink and substrate in conditions simulating actual printing practice.
  • Makes color strips with various inks on different substrates, which can be used for numerous purposes.

The test strips made with the AIC2-5 printability tester are suitable for many purposes:

OPERATION

The AIC2-5 printability tester consists of an inking unit and a printing unit.

The inking unit consists of two sections: each section consists of two aluminum drum and a roller for distribution of two different types of inks or oils at the same time.

Thanks to the large diameter ratios of these drums, the inking time is short.

A polyurethane top roller is supplied as standard, and is used for conventional inks.

For UV-curing inks a top roller with a special rubber cover is required.



The printing unit consists of an impression cylinder and at most two printing forms (printing discs).

Printing forces, speed and interval time between the first and second printing disc are adjustable. The printing discs which are inked on the separate inking unit are printed on the substrate which is on the impression cylinder.

Many sorts of printing discs are available in various widths for many different tests and inks.

Highest speed, interval times of 0.014 s can be achieved. This makes it possible to simulate almost any inter unit interval time of printing press units.

For the various tests the impression cylinder can be provided with a variety of coverings.

Many accessories are available which can be attached to the printability tester. This enables a very wide range of tests to be made. Various accessories also make it possible to work with gravure and flexo inks.


IGT INK PIPETTE

The use of an IGT ink pipette to apply offset ink to the inking unit is strongly recommended because it increases the accuracy of application of ink and therefore the inking, thereby enhancing the performance of the tests.
